A device can read multiple Wiegand formats in BioStar 2.3 and above.

Refer to the administrator’s manual or below to know which firmware versions support this feature:

This feature basically allows you to read multiple Wiegand format cards on a single Suprema device.


Note: BioStar 1 does not support this feature.

Configuring Multi-Wiegand Format


1. Go the the DEVICE menu in BioStar 2.


2. Select your device.


3. On Authentication > Wiegand Card Format select multiple formats on the checkbox.

4. Click Apply.



Configuring Wiegand Input

If you’re receiving Wiegand signal from another device or sending a wiegand signal out of the suprema device, you can configure in the menu below:


1. Go the the DEVICE menu in BioStar 2.


2. Select your device.


3. On Advanced > Wiegand select your Wiegand Input.


4. Check multiple desired Wiegand formats in the Input Format mode.

5. Click Apply.


If you want to configure a custom Wiegand format, Configure at Setting > CARD > Wiegand.

Figuring Out Your Card Format

If you do not know the Wiegand format of your card and if your card happens to be one of the pre-configured formats in BioStar 2, you can find the format of your card by reading your card after configuring multiple Wiegand formats. 


In the example below, I will test with a 26bit Prox card.


1. Go the the DEVICE menu in BioStar 2.


2. Select your device.


3. On Authentication > Wiegand Card Format select all the Wiegand formats available on the checkbox.


4. Click Apply.


5. Go to the USER menu.


6. Click ADD USER.


7. Click + Card.


8. Select Card Type as Wiegand. 


9. Assuming I do not know my format and I will scan my card as any configured format. 

I will set my Card Data Format as HID Corporate 1000


10. For Registration Option choose Register by Card Reader.


11. On Device choose your device 


12. Click Read Card and read the card


13. A error message pops up saying that the format is a mismatch. Corporate 1000 format was expected but 26 bit SIA Standard-H10301 card was read.

I can now tell that my card is a standard 26 bit format card. 



How does the device find a matching Wiegand format among the multiple formats? 

If multi Wiegand formats are configured, the length of the card number determines which format is matched. 

If multiple formats of the same length are defined, then the parity bit is used to find the appropriate format.

If no format matches the card being read, the card will not be recognized from the device.
