⚠️ NOTE from Erik: I’d like to keep the firmware out of the hands of any partners. No one outside of Suprema should have it because it’s very sensitive. Based on previous experience, if we give the firmware to partners, they will change the firmware on readers whenever it is convenient, and without informing us. This makes tracking for sales, support, and warranty purposes impossible. 


Prerequisites

  • Firmware file provided by Suprema (internal use only)
  • PC with BioStar 2 installed, or access to a network with a BioStar 2 server
  • Ethernet connectivity
  • BioStar Air mobile app (iOS or Android)
  • Device must not be registered to any existing BioStar Air site

Step 1: Add Firmware to BioStar 2

  1. Copy the firmware file into the BioStar 2 firmware directory:
    • C:\Program Files\BioStar 2\firmware or
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\BioStar 2\firmware

   DO NOT unzip the firmware file if it comes packaged as a .zip file!


Step 2: Reset and Prepare the Reader

  1. Confirm the reader is not registered to any BioStar 2 site. (No security certificate)
  2. Perform a hard reset on the reader.
  3. Connect the reader using one of the following methods:
    • Directly to a PC running BioStar 2
    • To the same network as a server running BioStar 2 (via Ethernet)

Step 3: Upgrade Firmware in BioStar 2

  1. Launch BioStar 2.
  2. Go to DEVICE.
  3. Select the target device.
    • Multiple devices of the same model can be selected for batch upgrade.
  4. Click Firmware Upgrade.
  5. Select the correct firmware version.
  6. Start the upgrade and wait until it completes.
  7. After completion, disconnect the reader from the PC or BioStar 2 network.

Step 4: Connect the Reader to the Final Network

  1. Connect the reader to its target network via Ethernet.
  2. Ensure required ports are open by following this guide: https://support.supremainc.com/en/support/solutions/articles/24000099569-biostar-air-site-setup-networking

Step 5: Register the Device in BioStar Air

Note: Device registration must be done using the BioStar Air mobile app.

The web portal cannot be used for device registration.

  1. Open the BioStar Air app on an iOS or Android phone.
  2. Log into the target BioStar Air site.
  3. Navigate to Management > Devices.
  4. Tap + (upper-right corner).
  5. Locate the device in the list and tap Register.
  6. The device will reboot automatically.
  7. After reboot, the device will connect to the site and can be configured from:
    • BioStar Air mobile app
    • BioStar Air web portal
