We’ve enhanced offline access behavior for XPass 2 readers when using RFID cards in BioStar Air. This update ensures readers can validate card credentials locally, even during a network interruption. XStation 2 support will follow shortly.

What’s New

Previously, XPass 2 and XStation 2 supported a limited offline fallback for RFID cards. If a card had been used at the reader before, it could still be validated offline using local event history.

With this update, that behavior has been significantly improved:

  • RFID card numbers and access levels are now actively synced to the reader. This allows offline operation even for cards that have never been used on that reader.
  • Sync occurs automatically whenever user credentials are added or updated.
  • You can also trigger a manual sync from the Registered Devices screen (web or mobile app).

This brings XPass 2 and XStation 2 in line with how BioStation 3 and BioEntry W3 already handle offline RFID access.

✅ Available now for XPass 2

⏳ Support for XStation 2 will be enabled in the coming weeks (requires firmware update)

In addition, this update unlocks additional capabilities of XPass 2 to handle RFID cards. This is especially important for companies upgrading to BioStar Air from another system, if they want to keep their existing RFID cards.

  • Support for EM4100 (125 KHz) cards
  • Switch between MSB and LSB formats
  • Read custom Weigand card formats
  • Read proprietary card formats (select versions of XPass 2 only)
  • Future support for anti-passback when released

Benefits

  • Offline reliability: Cardholders can unlock doors even if the reader is temporarily offline.
  • Improved security posture: Access changes (e.g., add/revoke/update) are automatically applied once the reader reconnects to the network.
  • Consistent behavior: All Suprema readers supported in BioStar Air now use the same local credential sync approach.
  • RFID card flexibility: Continue using your existing RFID cards when upgrading from a legacy system to BioStar Air.

⚠️ Access changes made while the reader is offline will not apply until the device reconnects.

How to Enable This

  1. Go to Registered Devices.
  2. Select your XPass 2 readers.
  3. Click the Update Firmware button and select v.2.11 or later.

⚠️ Each model (XPass 2, XStation 2, etc.) uses a separate firmware package. You’ll need to update each type separately.

⚠️ Tip: On larger sites, we recommend creating device groups by model type to simplify firmware management.

Additional Notes

  • Mobile credentials already support offline fallback, based on the Max Offline Time setting in Site Settings.
  • LinkPass, Web QR, and remote door control still require an active network connection to function.
