In BioStar 2 version 2.9.6 and earlier, when synchronizing users with visual face data, actual images were synced, which led to longer synchronization times.

Also, there was a feature called Visual Face Migration, which was compatible with the Visual Face Algorithm between FaceStation F2 ver.1 and FaceStation F2 ver.2 . (Refer to [BioStar 2] Supports Visual Face Migration

Starting with BioStar 2 version 2.9.7, the system only sends Visual Face templates during user synchronization, without transmitting actual images. Additionally, the Visual Face Migration feature has been updated, and you can choose not to store actual images, offering an additional layer of security compliance, although the data is already encrypted.

Notice on FaceStation F2 v1.x.x Firmware Support Discontinuation on BioStar 2 version 2.9.7 or higher version
Starting with BioStar 2 v2.9.7, we have enhanced synchronization performance by modifying the process to transmit templates exclusively when synchronizing a user’s visual face to the device.

Given the differences in visual face algorithms, FaceStation F2 v1.x.x won’t sync well with the new BioStar 2. Therefore, we’ve decided to end support for FaceStation F2 v1.x.x from BioStar 2 v2.9.7 onward.

If you are currently using FaceStation F2 v1.x.x firmware, kindly upgrade your FaceStation F2 to the latest firmware to utilize BioStar 2 v2.9.7. (https://download.supremainc.com)

Visual Face Migration from BioStar 2 version 2.9.7 or higher

Visual Face Migration is a feature that creates two types of Visual Face templates from the images of users already stored on the BioStar 2 server. To synchronize Visual Face data as templates only (without actual images), you must complete the Visual Face Migration process.

[Note] Before starting Visual Face Migration, if you add a BioStation 3 or BioEntry W3 to a system that only uses FaceStation F2, the system will need to extract NPU-type templates from the actual images because the template types are different. This process can take a long time, depending on how many visual faces are registered on the server.

Differences in Visual Face Template Types for FaceStation F2, BioStation 3, and BioEntry W3.

• NPU Type: BioStation 3, BioEntry W3

GPU Type: FaceStation F2

Who needs to use it?

This feature helps to extract the Visual Face Warped Image to NPU Template Type and GPU Template Type.

If you are using BioStar 2 version 2.9.6 or BioStar 2 older version with BioStation 3 or FaceStation F2, please proceed with this feature to enhance the user synchronization speed. We recommend using this option once you upgrade your BioStar 2 to BioStar 2 version 2.9.7.

In addition, you can also choose whether BioStar 2 stores the Visual Face Warped Image or not. [BioStar 2] Guide to the Feature for Not Saving Visual Face Image

Preparation

When using FaceStation F2 or BioStation 3 with BioStar 2 v2.9.7, it is recommended to upgrade to the latest firmware version. The latest firmware can be downloaded from the Suprema Download Center (https://download.supremainc. com).

Compatible Device Firmware Version is:

FaceStation F2 v2.2.0 or higher, BioSation 3 firmware v1.3.1 or higher, BioEntry W3 firmware v1.0.0 or higher

How To Use Visual Face Migration

For around 1,000 visual faces, the process takes about 18 minutes, but the time may vary depending on the server's performance.

Please check the total number of visual face users before starting Visual Face Migration.

1. Log in to BioStar 2 using an administrator account with Operator level permissions.

2. Click USER.

3. Click the [...] on the right and select Visual Face Migration.

4. Read the warning message and click Continue.

6. Please stay on the current page while the migration is in progress.

7. When Visual Face Migration is complete, a pop-up will appear showing the total number of visual faces in BioStar 2, along with how many were successfully migrated and how many failed.

If the migration fails, you can download a CSV file with a list of users whose migration was unsuccessful.
Additionally, you can click Delete to remove all visual faces that failed to migrate at once.
